August: Flower of the month -Sotan Hibiscus Syriacus

Arranged by Hiroko Suzuki

Sotan Hibiscus Syriacus, favored by Sotan, the grandson of the great tea ceremony master Sen no Rikyu,  is named after him.

This flower is often arranged at summer tea ceremonies.

Direct from garden or from pots, the fragile thin petalled flower is always picked fresh from its branches for arrangements.

Likewise are cotton roses, morning glories and moonflowers.

Coming in touch with the flowers and appreciating their startling but transient beauty would set you off to a good starting in Nageire.

Let’s take advantage of ample leaves and put forth a rhythm through coordination with Zijin larch.
