It was at the end of April, just before the golden week, that I made a business trip to Karatsu.
On the first day I visited MasterSakurei Okamoto, who owns a ceramic atelier up in the mountain area of Kyuragi.

Soiree for the eternal youth and longevity 2013.3.18

On March 20th we held at Yakata “a soiree for the eternal youth and longevity”.

The herbs in the “eternal youth and longevity pot” warm your body. Although the spring is already at the corner, and cherry blossoms are to bloom soon, such a pot meal is a mercy at times yet so chilly.

Yakata is full of items that are not only fancy but are useful as well.
The iron bat of ogre is no exception.
It serves as a wall decor, while, meeting the needs for practicability, serving as a shoe tongue.

The ogres, created by Hiroaki Sasaki, are among the popular objects at our gallery.
Here you see the third generations, young and naughty. Each generation has their characteristics.

At the end of the year 2012 one of Sueharu Fukami’s works was installed in our gallery. It’s the very piece which has been scheduled for exhibition at Yakata long before its opening in April 2012.

A lotus flower has bloomed in our entrance hall. Metal work by Hanae Itoga 2012.12.17

Itoga has had a bit of hard time to meet my demand. I have asked her for a work in copper with suave finish both in tone and in style. Copper is a hard material and tends to bring about severeness.

Opening of the Tea Room at Yakata 2012.12.14

The chacoal in the brazier is lit. Master Sohshuh Iseki, President of Hoshigaoka in Asagaya has kindly accepted my offer to host the opening tea ceremony at Yakata. It is arranged for November 22nd, the day of boar in Japan’s old lunisolar calendar. Boar is said to be good for a start of anything that has to do with fire.

World of Kinkara 2012.12.9

Exhibition will be from 2012 December 8thto 25th.
The works by the 2 artists, Takashi Ueda, who has revived the once known Kinkarakawakami, and his successor Kazuhiro Ikeda, are gorgeously decorating the space Yakata.
